ZAFRA CTC CHROME/BLACK SAND/CRYSTAL

The Zafra CTC54 is a close-to-ceiling crystal light in black sand and chrome — four lamps, 40 W total, 1,270 lm — with switchable 3000 K / 4000 K / 5000 K.

Close to ceiling, which is the practical member of the family

Zafra also comes as a two-tier and a three-tier pendant, and those want a void. The CTC is the one for an ordinary room — it sits close against the ceiling, so it works at 2,400 mm where a tiered pendant cannot, and gives you the same crystal and the same colour switching in a bedroom, a hallway or a living room.

Four lamps behind crystal

Four sources at 40 W total spread light across the fitting rather than putting it all at the centre — which on a crystal shade means the whole piece lights up instead of glowing brightly in the middle and dimming at the edge. Output is 1,270 lm: enough for a bedroom or a hallway, not enough on its own for a large living room.

Black sand against chrome and crystal

An unusual combination and a deliberate one. Black sand is matte and faintly textured, so it recedes; chrome and crystal both catch light. The result reads as sparkle on a dark ground rather than as a bright metal object — which is what stops a crystal fitting looking dated.

Three colour temperatures, switchable

3000 K warm, 4000 K natural, 5000 K cool. On crystal the choice changes the character completely: warm glows amber, cool sparkles white. Choose after it is installed, and change your mind later.

• Anywhere a tiered Zafra pendant will not fit.
• Alongside a Zafra pendant elsewhere in the house, matched in finish.
