DOMUS SM KIT-312 1212X312 SM/BACKLIT FRAME

⭐ A 1,200 mm frame is a different proposition from a 600 mm one

• ⭐ The square 606 frame is a manageable object one person can hold against a ceiling. ⭐ A 1,200 mm frame is not.
• ⭐⭐ IT NEEDS FIXING AT MORE POINTS AND IT NEEDS A SECOND PAIR OF HANDS. ⭐ A long frame fixed only at its ends will bow visibly in the middle, and a bowed frame shows a shadow line along the panel edge that is very hard to look past once noticed. ⭐ Fix it at intermediate points into ceiling framing, not just into plasterboard.
• ⭐ PLAN THE FIXINGS AGAINST THE JOISTS BEFORE ORDERING. ⭐ At 1,200 mm the frame will cross two or three joists at 450 mm centres if it runs across them, and none if it runs along one — ⭐ which is the difference between a straightforward fix and needing noggins.
• ⭐ The orientation is worth deciding early for another reason: a 1,212 × 312 mm panel is a strongly directional object and it will look either deliberate or accidental depending on whether it aligns with the room.

⭐ Why a linear panel rather than a square one

⭐ A 1,212 × 312 mm panel puts the same 36 W over a long narrow area rather than a square one. ⭐⭐ THAT SUITS CORRIDORS, GALLEY KITCHENS, RECEPTION DESKS AND WORKBENCHES — ⭐ anywhere the space itself is linear and a square fitting would light the walls as much as the work. ⭐ Two or three in a line read as a continuous run. ⭐ In a square room a square panel is almost always the better answer.

⭐ What the panel it holds does

⭐ For context: the matching 312 panel is 36 W, 3,010 lm at 3000 K, 3,415 at 4000 K and 3,200 at 5700 K, CRI ≥80, colour switchable by a dip switch on the cable. ⭐ It uses a flicker-free driver with a harmonic filter, which is a genuine specification rather than marketing: standard LED drivers can produce a strobing effect that some people find uncomfortable over a working day, and it is one of the few things a panel datasheet can tell you that affects how a room feels to work in. ⛔ It is not dimmable.

⛔ Diffuser discolouration is excluded from the warranty

⭐ Stated explicitly on the sheet. ⭐ Opal diffusers yellow slowly under UV and heat, and the exclusion is the manufacturer saying so. ⭐ It matters most near windows and in continuously-run spaces. ⭐ Buy all the panels for one area together so they age together — ⭐ a single replacement three years in will not match its neighbours.
