MALIN PENDANT

The Malin is a 430 mm pendant made from recycled fibres that reduces mid-frequency and voice noise by up to 25% — in green, grey or black, taking one E27 globe.

A quantified acoustic claim, which is rare

Telbix state a figure: up to 25% reduction in mid-frequency and voice noise. That band matters because mid-frequency is where human speech sits — it is the range that makes a hard room feel noisy and conversation feel like work. Most acoustic products in lighting gesture at “sound absorbing”; this one puts a number on it. Three or four over a table does measurable work in a room with hard floors and plaster walls.

Recycled fibre — and the record calls it iron

The body is felt made from recycled fibres, not metal. Our product record lists the material as “Iron”, which describes the fixings and misses the object entirely. The fibre is what absorbs the sound, what gives the pendant its soft matt surface, and what makes it 1 kg at 430 mm across — light enough that a run of them over a long table needs no special fixing.

The pendant of the felt family

Telbix make this acoustic felt as wall lights too — the Raxa, Niro and Moro — but the Malin is the pendant, and that is where acoustic treatment actually earns its place: hung over the table or desk where the noise is generated, rather than on a wall at the edge of the room.

Three natural colours

Green, grey and black — muted, natural tones rather than the two-tone reversible plates the wall lights use. On a pendant seen from below and all round, a single considered colour is the right call.

An ordinary E27 globe, and that is an advantage

Unlike the felt wall lights, which have sealed LEDs and an unresolved electrical class, the Malin takes a standard E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied. So you choose the brightness and colour temperature, change them whenever you like, and the fitting outlives the light source. Dimming is globe dependent.

Shallow for its width

430 mm across, 270 mm high, on a 2,000 mm suspension with a 25 mm canopy projection. Wide and shallow — which is what an acoustic panel wants to be, since surface area is what absorbs sound.
