At 1500 mm the Barline Shadow stops being a light fitting on a wall and becomes a line in the building. This is the length for double-height entries, long boundary walls and commercial-scale facades — anywhere a metre-long bar would still look undersized. It is also the brightest of the family by a distance: 2700 lm on its 4000K setting is enough to light a driveway or a wide courtyard from a single fitting. The trade-off is unforgiving proportion. A 1.5 m bar needs a surface that can carry it and a fixing line that is genuinely straight, because the shadow gap that makes the effect will also broadcast every deviation.

Where it works

• Double-height entry walls and rendered blade walls, run vertically as the dominant vertical element.
• Long boundary or retaining walls along a driveway, mounted horizontally to light the paving.
• Wide alfresco elevations and pool walls, replacing a row of separate fittings with one continuous band.

Specifying it

HV3576T-BLK and HV3576T-WHT run on 240 V AC — wired straight to mains, no driver required, earthed as a Class I fitting. The LED is built in behind a frosted Perspex diffuser, so no globe is needed and none can be fitted. Tri-colour switching gives 1380 lm at 3000K, 2700 lm at 4000K and 1495 lm at 5500K. IP65 rated for direct rain and coastal weather, IK08 for impact. Aluminium body in black or white powder coat, 90 mm wide and 45 mm deep. Backed by a 3-year replacement warranty.

Getting the effect right

Set the mounts to a string line, not to the render, and check the fitting for bow before you tighten it down — over 1.5 m a two-millimetre wander is visible in the shadow gap from across the driveway. Choose the colour temperature before the fitting is closed, and if the bar is the only light on that elevation, 4000K at 2700 lm is the setting that will carry it.
