The Fusell TL is a 510 mm table lamp with capiz shell detailing on an iron base, topped with a fabric shade — one E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied, on 1.8 metres of flex.

It is made of capiz shell — and neither our record nor our specification table said so. The record carried no material at all, and the table said “Iron – Fabric”. Only the description mentioned the shell, which is the entire reason the lamp looks and costs as it does.

What capiz shell actually is

A natural material, not a finish. Capiz is the shell of the windowpane oyster, and it has one property nothing manufactured quite reproduces: it is naturally translucent — thin enough to pass light, dense enough to scatter it.

  • Unlit, it reads as a soft pearlescent surface with a faint iridescence that shifts as you move past it.
  • Lit, the individual pieces glow from within, each slightly differently, because each is a different thickness. That unevenness is the effect — a moulded plastic panel lights perfectly evenly and looks it.

Every lamp is therefore different. Natural shell varies in tone, translucency and pattern, so yours will not be identical to the photograph — which is the point of a natural material rather than a fault.

Handle the shell gently. Capiz is a thin natural material: dust it with a dry soft cloth or a soft brush, and keep it away from water, sprays and polishes.

It plugs into a power point. Our page said it “must be installed by a licensed electrician”. It has 1.8 metres of flex and is Class II double insulated. Removed.

510 mm tall, and the shade above the shell

On a 120 mm base at 1.36 kg, with a 250 mm fabric shade. The arrangement gives you two different lights from one lamp: the opaque fabric shade throws a defined pool down onto the surface and a wash on the ceiling, while the capiz base glows softly on its own at the level of the table. That lower glow is what makes the Fusell read as ambient rather than functional even when it is doing useful work.

⚠ 1.36 kg on a 120 mm base is modest for a 510 mm lamp — and this one has a shell base you would rather not have on the floor. Keep it back from the edge of a narrow table and clear of a flex that gets pulled. If it is going somewhere with real traffic, ask us about a heavier lamp — the Vybor, in travertine, is 6.1 kg.

The globe is hidden, so the choice is simple

One E27 to 25 W, not supplied. Nothing shows through the fabric shade, so brightness and warmth are the only decisions. Use warm 2700 K — capiz shell is a warm, creamy natural material, and cool white makes it look grey and dead.

Dimming depends on the globe — and neither our record nor our specification table mentioned dimming at all. The datasheet says globe dependent, which is right. On a plug-in lamp that means an inline or plug-in dimmer, and on this lamp it is especially worth doing: taken low, the fabric shade goes quiet and the capiz base becomes the whole lamp. Ask us and we will match the pair.

What is capiz shell?

Warranties

For all warranty claims please ensure you have your proof of purchase at hand, an invoice from your electrician from the installation and check the faulty product is within the applicable warranty period. Warranty is replacement only.

Lights For You is not responsible for damages caused by unprofessional installation, modified products or manipulated by the customer or by any other person not authorised by the manufacturer; as well as by improper use, manipulation and/or short circuits, apparent signs of improper treatment.

Faulty items: lodge warranty directly with the brand (manufacturer). Keep proof of purchase.

Damaged or Missing Items

Notification of any damages or missing items must be received by Lights For You within seven (7) days of receipt of the product. Please email photos to ashfield@lightsforyou.com.au.

If the product is to be repaired or replaced, it must correspond to the one originally sent by Lights For You and the customer must include the delivery note and/or invoice.

Change of Mind Returns

  • Customers who wish to return a product due to a change of mind or cancelled order may do so within thirty (30) days of receipt.
  • The customer is responsible for the shipping costs for a change of mind return, irrespective of any free, discounted or any other type of shipping promotion that may have been applicable at the time of your order. This includes any costs you incur for us shipping the product to you in the first place and the cost of shipping the product back to us.

Cancellations

Customers who wish to cancel all or part of an order due to change of mind or incorrectly ordered may do subject to cancelling in within 12 hours, during business hours from time of purchase. Once products have been shipped, you cannot cancel them.
