Cast stone — dropped from the record for the third time

Our listing says “Fabric, Iron”. The base is cast stone: a heavy, faintly granular material that reads as quarried rather than moulded, and the reason to buy the lamp.

Square, compact and heavy

410 mm tall on a 150 mm square footprint, at 2.7 kg. The square base is worth noting — the other cast-stone lamps here are round — and it makes the Fornos sit squarely against a wall or into a corner in a way a round base does not. At 2.7 kg it is solid for its size: the stone puts weight exactly where a compact lamp needs it.

How it compares to the other two cast-stone lamps

• Fornos — 410 mm, 150 mm square, 2.7 kg. The tallest and squarest. For a console, a shelf or a corner.
• Celsus — 395 mm, 250 mm wide shade, 3.3 kg. The broadest and heaviest, for more light spread.
• Minra — 395 mm, 150 mm wide, 1.8 kg. The slimmest, for a narrow bedside.

All three share the cast stone and the fabric shade; the difference is proportion and weight.

Dimming depends on the globe

Fit a dimmable E27 and use a plug-in or inline dimmer and it dims; a plain globe will not. Our record says “No”, which is misleading — the correct answer is globe dependent. Behind a fabric shade a dimmed globe is genuinely soft.
