Pinta CCT LED Step Light Louvred 12v

The Pinta is a louvred step light, and the louvre is the whole idea. Instead of an open face throwing light in every direction, a series of horizontal blades sits across the aperture, so the light is pushed downward onto the tread and the LED itself is hidden from anyone standing in front of it. On a stair, that is the difference between a fitting that shows you the step and one that dazzles you on the way down.

Why a louvre matters more than brightness

At 2.3 W this is a deliberately modest fitting — 160 lm, 170 lm and 180 lm across its three colour settings. That is not a shortcoming. A step light is read at ankle height by someone already moving, and past a certain point extra output stops helping and starts producing glare in the field of view. The louvre lets the Pinta place what light it has where it is useful, which is why it reads as brighter underfoot than the numbers suggest.

Wiring it

It runs on 12 V DC and requires a 12 V DC LED driver sized for the whole run. At 2.3 W each, a long flight fits comfortably on one driver — ten fittings draw only 23 W — so size it on the total with headroom and give it a position that suits its own IP rating rather than burying it. Wiring is parallel. Being low voltage, no earth is needed at the fitting, which keeps a run along a stair or a path wall simple.

Where it works

• External stair flights, mounted on the riser so the louvre washes the tread below.
• Path-side and retaining walls at ankle height, where a glare-controlled fitting is worth the money.
• Poolside and rain-exposed steps — IP65 covers direct rain and hose wash-down. Near salt water, read Havit’s exclusion below.
• Long runs of many fittings from a single 12 V driver.

Specifying it

The 2.3 W LED is built in — no globe, no socket, nothing to replace. Tri-colour switching across 3000 K, 4000 K and 5500 K is set once at installation and is not adjustable afterwards, so set every fitting on a flight the same before it goes on the wall. It is not dimmable. CRI above 80, aluminium poly powder coated black.

Lights For You stocks the Pinta in black and in 316 stainless steel for coastal work. On a stair, mount every fitting the same distance above its tread rather than below the nosing — treads vary, and the eye reads the line of light rather than the line of the stair.

Coastal siting — Havit’s condition

Havit’s installation instructions for this fitting state that aluminium and 304 stainless steel fittings must not be installed within 5 km of any salt water environment. That is a condition on where the fitting may go, and it sits beside the IP rating rather than inside it: a fitting can be rated for direct rain and still fall outside this rule, because the issue is salt carried in the air rather than water landing on the surface.
