The Domus BF-2185 is a raw ceramic funnel uplight — 250 × 300 mm, projecting 120 mm, taking one G9 lamp to 40 W. Made in Italy.
✅ You can paint it, and nothing said so. The datasheet is explicit: “ceramic areas can be painted with any water-based paint”.
That changes what this product is. Raw ceramic is a finish you complete, not a finish you accept — paint it the same colour as the wall and the fitting disappears into the plaster, leaving only the light. It is the standard architectural use for this kind of fitting and it is the reason to choose ceramic over metal.
⚠ Paint it before it goes up, and keep paint off the lamp holder and the electrical parts.
Our record listed 60 W. The datasheet says 40 W maximum, and in a closed ceramic funnel that ceiling exists for a reason — the enclosure holds heat.
All the light goes upward and outward against the wall, so:
⚠ What we cannot tell you. No warranty is recorded for this product. Others in this catalogue run from one to five years, and we will not state a term we do not hold — ask us and we will confirm with Domus.
Ceramic, 240 V, 50,000 hours on the LED lamp you fit. Hard-wired, so a licensed electrician. ⚠ Ceramic is brittle — handle it on site the way you would a tile, and fix it into something solid.
250 mm wide, 300 mm high, 120 mm projection, in raw ceramic, made in Italy. ✅ Paintable with any water-based paint. One G9 lamp, 40 W maximum, NOT supplied — we suggest a warm 2700–3000 K G9 LED of 3–4 W, rated for enclosed fixtures. ⚠ our record said 60 W; the datasheet says 40. 220–240 V AC, hard-wired. ⚠ Warranty not recorded — ask us.
Supplied and supported by Lights For You.
Yes — the datasheet says the ceramic areas can be painted with any water-based paint, and nothing on our page mentioned it. Painting it the same colour as the wall makes the fitting disappear into the plaster and leaves only the light, which is the standard architectural use for this kind of uplight. Paint it before it goes up, and keep paint off the lamp holder and electrical parts.
Forty. Our record said 60 W; the datasheet says 40 W maximum for the single G9. In a closed ceramic funnel that ceiling exists because the enclosure holds heat, so it is worth respecting.
A G9 LED rather than a halogen — a 3 to 4 W G9 LED gives roughly 350 to 450 lumens, which is right for a wall uplight, and runs far cooler than the halogen this fitting was designed around. Warm 2700–3000 K, because ceramic and plaster are warm surfaces. Check it is rated for enclosed fixtures; many small G9 LEDs are not. The lamp is not supplied.
No. All the light goes upward and outward against the wall, so you get a broad soft wash with no visible lamp and no glare — atmosphere and architecture, not task light.
Around 1.8 to 2 metres from the floor, with at least 300 mm of clear wall above so the wash can develop, and nothing — cornice, beam or picture rail — cutting it off. Use them in a rhythm along a hallway or stairwell; a single uplight on a long wall reads as an accident.
Yes, and this is worth thinking about. Grazing uplight shows every bump, patch and roller mark in the plaster above it. On a well-finished wall that is the point; on a poor one it is unforgiving.
Not recorded for this product, and we would rather say so than guess. Others in this catalogue run from one to five years. Ask us and we will confirm with Domus.
