Argos Wall Light

The Argos WB is a 315 mm wall light with a cylindrical fabric shade on a warm metallic frame — one E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied — in antique gold with black or antique gold with ivory.

A cylinder on a wall throws light straight up and straight down

This is the whole reason to choose it. A 180 mm cylinder, 210 mm high, open at both ends, produces two vertical columns of light on the wall — one rising, one falling — rather than a pool or a wash. On a plain wall that reads as a deliberate architectural mark, and it is why cylindrical wall lights are used in pairs flanking a bed, a mirror or a fireplace.

Black or ivory — and on a wall the difference is bigger

• Black — opaque. All the light goes up and down and the shade itself stays dark, so you see two bright columns and a black cylinder. Sharp and graphic.
• Ivory — the fabric glows, so the shade becomes a third, softer light source between the two columns. Warmer, and much gentler at eye level.

At 315 mm above a bed, that difference is directly in your line of sight — ivory is the safer choice beside a bed, black the stronger one in a hallway or beside a fireplace.

Light on the wall, at 0.54 kg

180 mm wide by 315 mm high, weighing only 0.54 kg — so it fixes to plasterboard without any special provision, which is not true of every wall light in this range.

Dimming depends on the globe

Fit a dimmable E27 and pair it with a wall dimmer and it dims; a plain globe will not. Our record says “No”, which is misleading. Beside a bed this is worth doing: at low output the ivory shade glows and the columns soften.

One of a range of five

Argos runs as this wall light, a table lamp and three pendant sizes, all with the same cylindrical shade in the same two colours on the same antique gold. A bedroom with Argos wall lights above the bed and an Argos pendant over a chair reads as one decision.
